The hulls and frames of the Elizabeth Swann are to be made as 10 main subassemblies, (with the port and starboard outriggers/sponsons being mirror image - and the fore and aft foils being identical), as depicted below and joined by assembly to form the 'articulation-ready' wave piercing trimaran hull. These are draft dimensions, for project planning purposes, subject to revision by our naval architects and stressing team as the concept is developed. The vessel is designed first and foremost as a development test-bed for ocean speed trials, and secondly as a stunning solar boat for inclusion in a potential series of conservation themed films.
CENTRAL SPACEFRAME - This is the largest of the 10 sub-assemblies, with the longest being the central wave piercing hull. This is a tubular structure of 5083 alloy tubing with cross bracing, mountings for port and starboard outriggers, and a walkway platform of box section (100x50mm) ladder-frame construction, also in 5083 alloy, with marine ply deck - shown on this diagram in red. Length 16.256 m (53' 4"), Height 4.064 m (13' 4") and 6.096 m (20') wide. The three main tubes are 304.8mm (12") in diameter. The upright tubes are 203mm (8") diameter. With 6" diameter cross-bracing tubes on the upper deck (attachment points for solar wing arrays. Diagonal (vertical) bracing is by tensioned cables.
